Learning About Diabetes Diagnosis, Treatment and Research

Welcome to my site, my name is Jess Indaja. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after struggling with my weight throughout my teen years and adulthood. My doctor informed me about all of the dangers associated with my diet and exercise habits. I was encouraged to change the way I ate and moved in an effort to reverse my blood sugar problem. I made the changes, but still struggle with controlling my blood sugar. After going through this trying situation, I decided to make a site that may help others with problems associated with type 2 diabetes. I will discuss diagnostic procedures, treatments and medical research concerning this disease. I hope you visit often and learn all you can to control your type 2 diabetes or help others with this condition.

Reasons To Get Home Health Care For Your Elderly Parent

by Carla Hudson

If you have an elderly parent that lives alone, you might get worried about their daily activities and whether or not they can take care of themselves. Luckily, there are more options than putting them in a nursing home. You also have the option of getting home health care services for them. Here are some benefits to choosing home health care.

Your Parent Will Be Safe

The first benefit to getting home health care for your parent is that they will remain safe while also having their independence. Your parent might be insistent about remaining in their family home, but due to their age, they might have difficulty with household chores or personal hygiene. It also puts them at risk of falling down the stairs or slipping in the bathtub when they are home all alone. With home health care, the aide will help them with activities like taking a bath, cooking meals, doing laundry, running errands, and monitoring their medications.

They Have Companionship

Aside from being there to help your parent with things they struggle with on their own, home health care aides often provide conversation and companionship to elderly individuals. Living alone can be hard on someone who is older and doesn't have the freedom to drive to meet friends or visit with family often. They often feel alone in their home, especially after a spouse passes. The home health aide will sit with them, read them books, watch television, and listen to their stories during their shift.

You Have Control Over Their Caretakers

A major disadvantage with nursing homes and assisted living facilities is that you don't always know who is caring for your parent. There are often roaming aides and nurses, so it can be someone different every day. While they are just as experienced as home aides, you aren't the one choosing who cares for your parent. With home health care, you often interview the aide beforehand and choose one aide for each working shift. This allows you to choose who watches over your parent and lets you choose a different aide if your parent doesn't have a lot of chemistry with the original person you hired.

It Makes it Easier For You to Visit

Also consider the fact that when your elderly parent is being watched in their own home by a senior home health provider with United Senior Services, it is easier for you and others to visit. With assisted living facilities and nursing homes, they often have a strict visiting schedule. If you only have time to visit over the weekend or in the evenings, you might miss the opportunity.
