Learning About Diabetes Diagnosis, Treatment and Research

Welcome to my site, my name is Jess Indaja. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after struggling with my weight throughout my teen years and adulthood. My doctor informed me about all of the dangers associated with my diet and exercise habits. I was encouraged to change the way I ate and moved in an effort to reverse my blood sugar problem. I made the changes, but still struggle with controlling my blood sugar. After going through this trying situation, I decided to make a site that may help others with problems associated with type 2 diabetes. I will discuss diagnostic procedures, treatments and medical research concerning this disease. I hope you visit often and learn all you can to control your type 2 diabetes or help others with this condition.

5 Tips For Taking Care Of A Power Wheelchair For Newbies

by Carla Hudson

If you just recently purchased a power wheelchair, learning how to take care of it can feel overwhelming. However, with proper care and maintenance, your power wheelchair can last for a long time. Here are a few things you need to know about wheelchair maintenance as a new wheelchair owner.

Read The Owner's Manual

Set the owner's manual out where you will see it and make a point of reading or skimming through it within the first week or two of getting your new power wheelchair.

The owner's manual contains important information about how to use the chair that will make your life a little easier. Adjusting to a power wheelchair can be a big change ,and the information inside of the owner's manual can really help you learn how to properly use and get the most out of your new chair.

Keep Your Battery Charged

Next, you should try your best to always keep your battery as close to fully charged as possible. Whenever you get a chance, you should plug in your power wheelchair and charge it up.

If you use your wheelchair frequently throughout the day, try to incorporate one or two periods of time each day when you can charge your wheelchair back up.

Try to never allow your battery to fully discharge; this can actually damage your battery and you may have to replace the battery if this happens.

Keep An Eye On The Nuts & Bolts

You should also keep an eye on the nuts and bolts of your wheelchair, or have someone do that for you. In order for your wheelchair to function and work properly, all the nuts and bolts need to be tight; if any of them get loose, it could compromise the integrity of your wheelchair. Check them at least once a month.

Don't Pump The Tires Too Full

You also need to make sure that you keep an eye on the amount of air inside of your tires. In order to have the most control over the amount of air you pump into your tires, use a bicycle air-pump. This type of pump allows you to just add a little bit of air at a time.

Try to avoid the air pumps found at gas stations that release high-pressured air. These types of pumps can easily cause your tires to become over-inflate and blow out.

Try to follow the recommendation in your owner's manual for the recommended psi when filling your tires with air.

Keep It Clean

Finally, you really need to keep your wheelchair clean. Don't run it through puddles or let it get really dirty. Water, moisture and dirt can compromise the electrical parts of your wheelchair and can shorten its lifespan. If your wheelchair does get wet or dirty, try to clean it off as soon as possible.

If you follow the tips listed above, you should be able to keep your new power wheelchair in great shape. Contact a company like Southwest Medical & Rehab to learn more.
